PM Directs Acceleration of Privatization Process for Government Departments

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed the acceleration of the privatization process, urging its completion within the designated timeframe. He issued these directives while presiding over a review meeting in Islamabad on Thursday concerning the Task Management System, which is designed to monitor the privatization process of government departments.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for a swift privatization process of designated departments without compromising transparency. He suggested hiring reputable lawyers to address any legal hurdles in the privatization process. Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that the privatization of departments is a crucial component of the government’s “Uraan Pakistan” initiative, stressing that the government’s role is to implement policy measures and facilitate business and investment rather than engage in business activities itself.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence in the country’s economic progress due to timely and necessary reforms and called for collective effort towards Pakistan’s development. During the meeting, he was briefed on the Task Management System for privatization.

The meeting provided insights into the timeline for the privatization of various departments, indicating that the Federal Government’s departments’ privatization would occur in three phases. The first phase will ensure the privatization of ten departments, followed by thirteen departments in the second phase, and the remaining departments in the third phase.
