Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has directed the authorities concerned to immediately prepare a strategy for the establishment of an integrated transit trade management system.
Chairing a meeting in Islamabad today regarding Afghan Transit Trade and to prevent smuggling, he also instructed to take effective measures to improve and making foolproof the tracking system regarding Afghan transit trade.
The Prime Minister said smuggling and illegal transportation of goods is a major cause of Pakistan’s economic hardships. He directed to take disciplinary action against any official found involved in smuggling and giving him exemplary punishment. He further directed the authorities concerned to take intelligence clearance prior to appointment of any officer to sensitive posts of Customs.
Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar issued directives to the Chief Secretary Balochistan to change all the administrative machinery of Chagai district for showing negligence in prevention of smuggling.
He emphasized to further ti
ghten the monitoring system on the border areas of Balochistan including Chaman and Torkham, Ghulam Khan check posts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Prime Minister further directed to improve cargo checking system and increase Customs staff at Chaman border. He said there is need of working tirelessly for providing employment and livelihood to the people of Balochistan.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed about the progress of the investigation committee, probing into issue of Afghan Transit Trade. He lauded the committee performance and directed it to prepare its recommendations honestly.
The meeting was further told that smuggling of petroleum products from Iran has reduced significantly because of the government’s measures. It was informed that cargo tracking system has been launched from Taftan to Quetta.
