Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed the establishment of a comprehensive legal framework on a permanent basis for Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) recoveries. He made these remarks while leading a meeting to commend the efforts of ministers and officers for recovering 34.5 billion rupees and reviewing reforms in the FBR.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the swift recovery achieved within twenty-four hours, emphasizing that the nation benefits from such efforts which bolster the national treasury. He acknowledged the hard work and dedication that went into reaching this significant milestone, describing it as a good start for future endeavors.
Shehbaz Sharif stressed the importance of creating a sustainable system for FBR recoveries and called for a detailed action plan for reforms in the FBR, including strict enforcement of tax laws. He highlighted the necessity of improving the FBR’s workforce, advocating for full digitization, third-party validation, and continuous monitoring to enhance the system’s efficiency.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister also urged strict action against any officers and employees involved in corruption, while encouraging recognition for those displaying exemplary performance. He reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding public funds and ensuring accountability.
The Prime Minister was updated on the status of tax cases pending in courts and the recovery efforts being implemented by the government. Chairman FBR Rashid Mahmood Langrial provided insights into the reforms underway within the FBR’s Directorate of Law, the use of digital algorithms for tax audits, and the performance evaluation of tax officers, alongside broader FBR reforms.
