Islamabad: Secretary General of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Nurlan Yermekbayev, along with a delegation of senior officials, is set to embark on a two-day visit to Pakistan starting Thursday. He is visiting at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
According to Radio Pakistan, during his visit, Yermekbayev will engage in discussions with key Pakistani leaders, including the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, the Minister of Commerce, and the Foreign Secretary. His itinerary also includes visits to the National Disaster Management Authority and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry. Additionally, he will address the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad and will have interactions with business leaders, entrepreneurs, and media representatives.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization, comprising ten member states, is recognized as the world’s largest regional multilateral organization. The SCO region encompasses 3.4 billion individuals, representing 42% of the global population, and contributes a combined GDP of 24.67 trillion dollars.
This visit serves as a strategic platform for Pakistan to deepen its historical connections with SCO member states and to promote socio-economic collaboration across various sectors. It also provides a valuable opportunity for Pakistan to engage with the SCO Secretariat in pursuing shared regional security and economic objectives.
