Shehbaz Sharif Directs Digitalization of National Tariff Commission’s Operations

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has instructed the relevant authorities to digitalize all operational functions of the National Tariff Commission (NTC) to ensure transparency and quality. He issued these directives during a review meeting in Islamabad on reforms in the NTC aimed at enhancing its performance.According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister emphasized that the effective performance of the National Tariff Commission, following its institutional restructuring, is vital for boosting domestic industrial growth and attracting investment in the country. He also directed that legal and administrative issues of the NTC should be resolved under a comprehensive strategy to promote industry, trade, and investment.The Prime Minister instructed the NTC to facilitate investors and industrialists and to take special measures to protect them from legal and other complexities. Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the need to study global best practices to align the revamping and performance of the NT C with international standards.He further emphasized the adoption of innovation in the NTC through the use of information technology, artificial intelligence, and other modern tools. He ordered the simplification of legal complexities in the National Tariff Commission Appellate Tribunal to improve its performance. The Prime Minister stated that NTC staff should be trained according to international standards and that professional experts should be hired to provide practical guidance on reformative measures.Shehbaz Sharif warned that delays in the disposal of cases in the NTC are unacceptable and directed the establishment of a system to ensure the timely disposal of all cases. The Chairman of the National Tariff Commission briefed the meeting participants on the legal, administrative, and financial reforms being implemented under the roadmap approved by the Prime Minister.The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Mi nister for Climate Change Musadik Malik, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar, and other relevant government officials.
