UN Peacekeeping Meeting Begins in Islamabad Today

Islamabad: Pakistan, in partnership with the Republic of Korea, will co-host the two-day United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Preparatory Meeting in Islamabad from today (Tuesday). The meeting aims to set the groundwork for the upcoming UN Peacekeeping Ministerial meeting scheduled to take place next month in Berlin, Germany.

According to Radio Pakistan, the two-day Preparatory Meeting in Islamabad will include a series of panel discussions focusing on the future of peacekeeping. These discussions will address evolving challenges to peacekeeping operations, the role of technology in enhancing the safety and effectiveness of future peacekeeping, the involvement of regional and cross-regional organizations in supporting United Nations peace operations, the effective performance of peacekeepers, and an integrated approach for achieving sustainable and durable peace.

This meeting will also serve as a platform to highlight Pakistan’s dedication to United Nations peacekeeping efforts as a leading troop-contributing country. Over the years, Pakistan has deployed 235,000 peacekeepers across 48 UN missions, with 181 Pakistani peacekeepers having made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of international peace and security.
