ECP to issue election schedule for 48 Senate seats tomorrow


Election Commission of Pakistan will issue the election schedule for 48 seats of Senate tomorrow.

Nomination papers can be submitted with the relevant returning officers on Friday and Saturday.

Nomination papers are available from the Election Commission Secretariat Islamabad as well as the provincial elections commissioners of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Polling for 48 Senate seats will be held on the second of next month.

Pakistan, Bahrain call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza


Pakistan and Bahrain have called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and urgent provision of humanitarian assistance to the innocent Palestinians, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.

The demand was raised during a meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Commander of the National Guard of the Kingdom of Bahrain General Sheikh Mohammad Bin Isa Bin Salman Al Khalifa in Islamabad today.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan and Bahrain enjoy longstanding brotherly relations, and the two countries have excellent defence cooperation.

The Commander conveyed the greetings of King of Bahrain Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

The Prime Minister warmly welcomed His Highness General Sheikh Mohammad to Pakistan and thanked the Bahrain leadership for their messages of felicitations on his re-election as Prime Minister.

He said the longstanding brotherly relations between Pakistan and Bahrain will further stre
ngthen in near future.

On trade note, the Prime Minister said once the Pakistan-GCC Free Trade Agreement would come into effect, the existing bilateral trade volume of one billion dollars per annum has the potential to enhance manifold.

The Prime Minister referred to the King Hamad Nursing Hospital that was under construction in Islamabad. He said this flagship project was King of Bahrain’s gift to the people of Pakistan.

Recalling the visit of King of Bahrain’s in 2014, the Prime Minister said Pakistan looks forward to hosting the King of Bahrain once again in the near future.

In response, General Sheikh Mohammed extended an invitation to the Prime Minister to visit Bahrain at his earliest convenience.

PSCA, NRTC agree to implement smart safe city project in 18 cities


Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) and National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) signed an agreement in Lahore today to implement the network of Smart Safe City Authority project in eighteen cities of the province.

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz was also present during the signing ceremony.

Earlier, she was briefed that safe city initiatives in Taxila, Jhelum, Sheikhupura, Okara, and Gujarat will be operational by the end of May.

The Chief Minister was further informed that eighteen Air Quality Index Monitoring Sensors will also be installed in the cities.

The Chief Minister was also apprised of Safe City projects in Multan, Bahawalpur, Sargodha, Rahim Yar Khan, Muzaffargarh, Sahiwal, Jhang, Attock, Hasan Abdal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Sialkot, Murree, Okara and Mianwali will be completed this year.

PM meets Aimal Wali, condoles over death of his mother


Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif visited the residence of President Awami National Party, Asfandyar Wali Khan in Charsadda on Wednesday.

The Prime Minister met with Aimal Wali Khan and offered fateha for the departed soul of his mother and wife of Asfandyar Wali Khan.

Federal Ministers Ishaq Dar, Khawaja Asif, Amir Muqam, ANP leaders Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, and Ikhtiar Wali were also present on the occasion.

ECP announces schedule for by-elections on 23 seats of NA, four provincial assemblies


Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced schedule for by-elections on twenty-three seats of National Assembly and four provincial assemblies.

According to the schedule issued by the election commission today, polling will be held on the 21st of next month.

The candidates can file their nomination papers with the returning officers from the 16th to the 18th of this month. 21st of this month has been fixed as the last date for scrutiny of nomination papers.

The candidates can withdraw their nomination papers by 29th of this month. On the same day, the revised list of candidates will be issued.

The by elections will be held on six seats of National Assembly, twelve seats of Punjab Assembly, two seats each of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan Assemblies and one seat of Sindh Assembly.

These seats became vacant under Articles 43(2), 223(3) and (4) of the constitution as well as due to the death of contesting and returned candidates.
