Pakistan, Turkiye reaffirm support to each other on core national interests


Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif today held a telephonic conversation with President of Turkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to convey greetings on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul Fitr.

Both leaders exchanged Eid greetings and sincere wishes for peace, prosperity and unity for the people of Pakistan and Turkiye.

Underscoring deeply-rooted and historical relations between the two countries, the Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across all sectors of mutual interest.

The two leaders reaffirmed that they will continue to firmly and resolutely support each other on their core national interests.

They also called for peace in Palestine.

The Prime Minister reiterated his invitation to President Erdogan to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience.

The visit would provide the opportunity to convene the 7th session of High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council scheduled to be held in the near future.

PM, UAE President exchange Eid greetings, reiterate desire to enhance ties


Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today called UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and extended his best wishes and conveyed warm greetings on the blessed occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

During their most warm and cordial exchanges, the Prime Minister lauded the strong bonds and close cultural, religious and historical affiliation between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.

While expressing his gratitude for the warmth extended by the leadership of the UAE upon his assumption of office, the Prime Minister underscored that his government’s highest priority would be to transform the traditionally fraternal ties with the UAE into a mutually beneficial economic partnership between the two brotherly states.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan reiterated UAE’s strong support to Pakistan and reaffirmed the shared desire of both sides to further strengthen these fraternal ties meaningfully.

Pakistan, Ethiopia agree to launch Ethiopian GLI in Pakistan


Pakistan and Ethiopia have agreed to launch the Green Legacy Initiative of Ethiopian Prime Minister in the major cities of Pakistan.

This was agreed upon in a meeting between Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Romina Khurshid Alam and Ethiopian Ambassador to Pakistan Jemal Beker Abdula in Islamabad.

Romina Khurshid Alam said that the government of Pakistan is looking forward to working with Ethiopia to deal with climate change.

Speaking on the occasion Ambassador stressed the need for enhanced collaboration between the two countries to address climate issues through skills, technology, information and knowledge sharing.

He said the government of Ethiopia stands ready to work together with the Pakistani government in addressing climate-related issues such as floods and food insecurity.

The Envoy said that Ethiopia would extend all-out support to Pakistan on climate mitigation through technological transfer and experience sharing.

PM felicitates Yusuf Gilani, Syedal Khan on election as Chairman, Dy Chairman Senate


Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has felicitated Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and Syedal Khan Nasir on their election as Chairman and Deputy Chairman Senate respectively.

In his felicitation message, the Prime Minister expressed his best wishes for future endeavours of the two leaders.

He said the election of the Chairman and Deputy Chairman are continuity of the democratic process.

The Prime Minister hoped that the new Chairman and Deputy Chairman would play their key role for upholding the constitution and development of the country.

He also expressed the hope that the newly elected Chairman and Deputy Chairman would also play their proactive role in legislation for the country’s development and prosperity and welfare of the people.

Shehbaz Sharif said the Senate of Pakistan has a pivotal role in strengthening all the federating units and ensuring the democratic process.

The Information Minister noted the upper house has an important role to strengthen the federating units and upholding of democratic norms.

Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani of PPP takes oath as Chairman Senate


Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani of PPP has taken oath as the Chairman of Senate.

Presiding Officer Ishaq Dar administered him the oath.

Earlier, Presiding Officer Ishaq Dar announced Yusuf Raza Gilani’s election to the office unopposed as no other candidate filed nomination papers.

Taking the chair, Chairman Senate Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani expressed his gratitude to the PPP and the allied parties for reposing confidence in him. He said he will be the chairman of the whole house and his ambition is to build bridges, enable dialogue and provide a space for meaningful and robust discussion. He said that he will not compromise on the dignity of the house.

The Chairman Senate however regretted that there certain elements who seek to incite divide and hatred. He said the PPP has always preferred the politics of reconciliation and the welfare of the people.

Later, Saidal Khan Nasar took oath as the Deputy Chairman Senate, who was also elected unopposed as no other candidate submitted nomination papers.

Moon sighted, Eid-ul-Fitr to be celebrated on Wednesday


The crescent of Shawwal has been sighted and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated tomorrow (Wednesday) in the country.

This was announced by Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad after presiding over the meeting of the committee in Islamabad this evening.

According to the Spokesperson of Ministry of Religious Affairs, the meetings of Zonal Committees were held in the provincial capitals.

NTDC ensures nonstop power supply on Eid


In compliance with the instructions of Ministry of Energy, National Transmission and Despatch Company Limited has completed all necessary preparations to ensure uninterrupted power supply throughout the country on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

In a statement, the company’s spokesman said that a central control room has been set up to maintain close liaison with National Power Control Center and all distribution companies which will work round the clock during Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.
