No plans to hand over DISCOs to any institution: MoE


Ministry of Energy, Power Division has clarified that recent news circulating the media about Distribution Companies being handed over to army is incorrect.

In a press release today, the Ministry said neither there is any change in the management of DISCOs nor are they being handed over to any other institution.

It further stated that there are no plans in place to handover DISCOs to any institution of the State.

Govt committed to combat terrorism, extremism: Murtaza Solangi


Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi says government is resolute in its commitment to combat terrorism and violent extremism.

He was addressing the launching ceremony of Annual Security Assessment Report by Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies in Islamabad today.

The Minister said Pakistan has repeatedly asked the interim Afghan government to address Pakistan’s counterterrorism concerns, especially the space and safe heavens available to the militant groups like TTP to operate in and from Afghanistan. Pakistan expects positive response from the interim Afghan government.

He said Pakistan has also raised the issue of access to sophisticated weapons in Afghanistan to these militant groups besides involvement of Afghan nationals in anti-state activities in Pakistan.

Talking about the report, the Information Minister said in today’s dynamic world, data driven reports are the cornerstone of informed decision making.

He said such reports not only provide a compre
hensive understanding of our security landscape but also serve as a roadmap for policy makers. The invaluable insights derived from data are crucial for developing effective strategies to safeguard our country.

Responding to a question regarding JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman’s trip to Afghanistan, the Minister clarified that the visit was unofficial.

To a question about negotiations with terrorists, Murtaza Solangi made it crystal clear that the State will not hold talks with them till they lay their arms and accept and recognize the Constitution of Pakistan.

‘ECP has constitutional prerogative of holding free, fair general elections’


Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi says the Election Commission of Pakistan has the constitutional prerogative of holding free, fair, impartial and transparent elections in the country.

Talking to news men outside the Election Commission of Pakistan in Islamabad today, he said the caretaker government is legal and constitutional government and responsible to fulfill all financial, administrative and security needs of the Election Commission.

Murtaza Solangi said the security issues are genuine and the government realizes it and determined to improve it. He categorically stated that elections will be held on 8th of next month.

Replying to a question, the Minister said the issues related to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf can be better explained by the party itself. He said there is no ban on raising questions in the country.

Pakistan, KSA sign agreements, MoUs to facilitate Hujjaj


Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have signed different agreements and Memorandums of Understanding to provide better facilities to Pakistani pilgrims during this year Hajj.

Director General Hajj, Ministry of Religious Affairs signed these agreements and MoUs on behalf of the government of Pakistan.

Speaking on this occasion, Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Aneeq Ahmed, who was also present on this occasion, said that Pakistani pilgrims would be provided better place at Mina and Arafat during this year Hajj.

He also appreciated the authorities of Ministry of Religious Affairs for their hectic and consistent efforts to provide better facilities to the pilgrims during Hajj as compared to last year.

ECP to publish preliminary lists of candidates today


The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will publish preliminary lists of candidates today, while they can withdraw their nomination papers till tomorrow.

The revised list of candidates will also be published tomorrow.

The electoral symbols will be allotted on Saturday while polling for general elections will be held on 8th of next month.
