A breast cancer awareness session was held at Aiwan-e-Sadar, Islamabad today (Friday) to raise awareness regarding the disease and measures to overcome it at an early stage.
Doctors gave a thorough presentation on the occasion to help women understand the causes, symptoms, treatment and importance of early diagnosis of the disease.
They said Pakistan has highest percentage of breast cancer cases in Asia as about ninety thousand women every year are diagnosed with it.
First Lady Samina Arif Alvi who was the chief guest on the occasion called for proper data collection of the disease in the country so that a comprehensive data-based policy could be adopted for its prevention and cure.
She urged the women to give importance to the early signs of the disease instead of waiting for it to get worse.
Highlighting the government’s resolve to encourage women in every strata of life, the First Lady said the government plans to start vocational training programs for women on the basis of which they will be given jobs.
She said through Ehsaas Kifalat, Kamyab Jawan and other such programs the government has made disbursement of loans easier for women interested in starting their own businesses.
