Shami calls for devising strategy to end rising fake news issue

Renowned journalist Mujeeb u Rehman Shami has called for devising strategy to end the rising issue of fake news as spreading disinformation leaves detrimental impacts on the social fabric of the society.

In an exclusive interview with Radio Pakistan Lahore Correspondent Sajjad Parvez on the occasion of Press Freedom Day, he urged to impart training among the media personnel to tackle the emerging challenge of fake news in the society. He further said that media personnel should learn the new techniques of reporting especially in the war torn areas.

He said that there are different parameters of print, electronic, social media and asked the need to adopt the inclusive model for the best usage of these mediums.

Highlighting the emerging role of social media in the society, Mujeeb u Rehaman Shami said that now every individual can easily communicate with the large number of audience in different social networking sites including YouTube, Face Book and Twitter.

While praising the prolific contribution of Radio Pakistan in the development of society, he stated that Radio Pakistan played a tremendous role of the integration of nation and further it infused manners of speaking among the general public.

He expressed pleasure that Radio Pakistan is being upgraded and entered into the video podcast service.

In his message to the fresh media graduates, he stressed to promote good values in the society. He further said that a person having impressive convincing power should not defame or disrespect others without any evidence by using his talent in wrong way.

Mujeeb u Rehman Shami said that Law of defamation should be strong enough as no one shows courage to disrespect anyone without any evidences.
