Pakistan unanimously elected Chairman of UN Disarmament Commission


Pakistan has been unanimously elected Chairman of the UN Disarmament Commission at its 2024 session.

A vital subsidiary organ of the UN General Assembly, the Commission makes recommendations on various issues in the field of disarmament.

Deputy permanent representative of Pakistan to the UN Ambassador Usman Jadoon while speaking on the occasion assured to keep Pakistan’s ethos and tradition of multilateral diplomacy and be an honest broker and a facilitator of dialogue.

Meanwhile, taking part in the general debate, Ambassador Munir Akram said said that the security environment in South Asia has deteriorated sharply in recent years, as the region’s largest state has embarked on a program of massive armament.

Ambassador Munir Akram while taking part in the general debate of the UN Disarmament Commission in New York said security
environment continues to be volatile in South Asia due to suppression of fundamental rights of Kashmiris in IIOJK; deployment of two major armies in close proximity, sponsorship of terrorism against Pakistan; induction of major weapons and the absence of dialogue.

He shared Pakistan’s proposals for comprehensive programme of disarmament.

Kyrgyzstan offers incentives for Pakistani entrepreneurs, investors


Kyrgyzstan has offered several incentives to fully facilitate Pakistani entrepreneurs and investors in joint ventures.

Head of External Relations Department of Kyrgyz Ministry of Economy and Commerce, Asel Begmatova, presented these offers to a Pakistani trade delegation visiting Kyrgyzstan.

The delegation is on a two-week visit to Kyrgyzstan to study the scope of further strengthening bilateral trade and promotion of exports.

Briefing the Pakistani delegation, Begmatova said joint ventures would not only cater to Kyrgyz needs but also generate profits of investors.

CJP takes suo motu notice on letter of 6 IHC judges


Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa has taken suo motu notice on the letter of six judges of Islamabad High Court.

The Chief Justice has constituted a seven member bench which will hear the case on Wednesday.

The bench will be headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa. Other members of the bench are: Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Yahya Khan Afridi, Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Musarat Hilali, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel.

Ten newly-elected MNAs take oath of their office


Session of the National Assembly started at the Parliament House in Islamabad this afternoon with Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in the chair.

Ten newly elected members of the National Assembly took oath of their office.

Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq administered the oath.

The House also observed one-minute silence over the killing of five Chinese nationals in Dasu terrorist attack to express solidarity with the people of China.

Besides, fateha was offered for the departed souls of various people, including personnel of the security and law enforcement agencies, who laid down their lives in defence of the country.

The session has now been prorogued.

Law Minister appreciates lawyers’ support for inquiry commission on IHC judges’ letter


Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has expressed appreciation for the support from the elected lawyers’ organizations nationwide regarding the establishment of an inquiry commission and the appointment of former Chief Justice of Pakistan, Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, as its head to probe into issues raised by judges of Islamabad High Court in a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

In a statement, the Law Minister said the declaration of the Pakistan Bar Council, the largest organization of lawyers across the country, and the Supreme Court Bar Association are manifestations of their seriousness about the independence and impartiality of the judiciary.

He said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, Punjab Bar Council, Islamabad Bar Council, Peshawar High Court Bar, Abbottabad High Court Bar, Lahore Bar Association, Multan High Court Bar and Bahawalpur High Court Bar have also expressed confidence in the formation of the commission and appointment of Tassaduq Hussain Jillani as the head, describing it as a positive deve
lopment.
