ECC approves Rs10bln for NDMA to procure, logistics of flood relief items

The Economic Coordination Committee of the cabinet has approved ten billion rupees the National Disaster Management Authority for procurement and logistics of relief items for the flood-affected people of the country.

The ECC met in Islamabad on Wednesday with Finance Minister Miftah Ismail in the chair, who virtually presided over the meeting.

The ECC also directed immediate release of five billion rupees to NDMA.

The forum also considered a summary of Ministry of Commerce on clearance of stuck up consignments and directed that the consignments of previously banned items that landed in Pakistan till 18th of the last month may be released at the rate of surcharge.

The ECC also directed Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination to submit a fresh summary on paracetamol and to rationalize the price and ensure its availability.

It, however, deferred a summary of Ministry of the National Food Security on import of wheat through Gwadar Port.

PM appeals philanthropists to donate generously for provision of food to flood-affected children

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appealed philanthropists and baby food manufacturing companies to come forward and donate generously to provide food to the flood-affected children.

In his video message from New York on Wednesday, he said that the children in the flood-hit areas are facing shortage of baby food and they need urgent cooperation of the nation. He said donations with regard to baby food should be provided to the National Disaster Management Authority, Provincial Management Authorities, the armed forces, and others. He said that the Allah Almighty will give better reward for this humane donation.

The Prime Minister also appreciated the provincial governments and the armed forces for their efforts in providing relief to the flood victims.

He said Pakistan is passing through the most critical time of its history. He said we are facing financial and economic difficulties due to devastations caused by recent rains and floods. He called for collected efforts to come out of the present crisis.

Third special plane from Saudi King carrying 30 tons of relief goods arrives in Karachi

The third special plane carrying 30 tons of relief goods, including tents, food packages, blankets, dates and NFI kits, from the King Salman Relief Center for the flood victims has arrived in Karachi.
The Saudi Consul General in Karachi, along with Director KSrelief Pakistan and representative from the NDMA received the plane.
This relief will be distributed among affected people according to the needs of each region in several regions of Pakistan in collaboration of NDMA.
The series of flights will continue till 27th of this month.

IMF will continue to support Pakistan under current program: MD

Managing Director of IMF Kristalina Georgieva says the IMF will continue to support Pakistan under the current program to help ease the pain of the Pakistani people.

In a tweet, the managing Director IMF said she had a very constructive with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in this regard.

She also expressed deep sympathy for the devastation caused by the floods in Pakistan.
