Pakistan Railways launches public safety campaign

Pakistan Railways has launched a public safety campaign to create awareness among masses regarding crossing of manned and unmanned level crossings to save precious lives.

According to the main points of this campaign, people should only cross the railway track from a place designated for this purpose.

It said people should demonstrate utmost responsibility and make sure that no train is coming in their way before passing the unmanned level crossings.

It said that people should refrain from trespassing the partially opened gate of the railway crossing. If a motor vehicle breaks down in middle of the level crossing then un-board all the passengers, promptly clear the railway crossing and apprise operator of Railways signals and follow his directions.

Polling of by-election in PP-38 Sialkot-4 underway

By-election at Punjab Assembly constituency PP-38 Sialkot-4 is being held today (Wednesday).

The polling which started at 08:00 am will continue till 05:00 pm without any break.

A total of eight candidates are vying for the seat while tough contest is expected between PTI’s Ahsan Saleem and PML-N’s Tariq Subhani.

The total number of the registered voters in the constituency is 233,422. including 105,294 female voters.

The Election Commission has established 165 polling stations in the constituency to facilitate the voters.

Monsoon downpours intermittently lashing different parts of country

Monsoon downpours are intermittently lashing different parts of the country including Islamabad, upper parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir.

A spokesperson of met office told this correspondent that the highest rainfall of 123 mm was recorded in the federal capital followed by 103mm in Sialkot and Kotli, 56 mm.

The spokesperson said this spell will persist during the next three days.

According to Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi, teams have been deployed in low lying areas of the city to deal with any emergency situation. According to the ISPR, heavy rains caused high water level in Nullah Lai and water accumulation in E-11.

Army troops are busy in assisting civil administration in rescue and relief efforts.

The ISPR said contingencies plans are in place to meet any flood situation.

Promoting tourism amongst foremost priorities of Govt: PM

Prime Minister Imran Khan has said promoting tourism is amongst the foremost priorities of the government.

Talking to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan in Islamabad on Wednesday, he said tourism promotion will not only generate economic activities in the local areas but also leave positive impact on the economy.

The provincial Chief Minister briefed the Prime Minister about tourism activities in different districts and the steps taken for facilitation of domestic and foreign tourists. He also briefed the Prime Minister about the development projects being executed under the tourism promotion roadmap.

PM asks Governor Balochistan to visit all districts of province

Prime Minister Imran Khan has asked Governor Balochistan to visit all districts of the province to ensure effective steps for resolving issues of the public.

He said this in a meeting with Governor Balochistan Syed Zahoor Ahmed Agha and Deputy Speaker National Assembly Qasim Khan Suri in Islamabad today (Wednesday).

During the meeting, they discussed matters pertaining to Balochistan.

Both the leaders congratulated the Prime Minister for winning elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, especially on seats reserved for refugees.
