Govt has decided to maintain fuel prices in country: Finance Minister

Government has decided to maintain fuel prices in the country.

This was announced by Minister for Finance and Revenue Miftah Ismail at a news conference in Islamabad today [Sunday].

He said despite increasing prices of petroleum products Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided not to transfer the burden of price hike on masses.

He said PTI government has destroyed economy of the country.

The Minister said agriculture sector was badly ignored and resultantly Pakistan imported wheat worth of six hundred million dollars last year.

He said this year wheat worth of 1.5 billion dollars will have to be imported.

Miftah Ismail said prices of flour soared up from 35 rupees per kg to 80 rupees per kg in last four years.

Talking about sugar price, Miftah Ismail said that government is providing cheap sugar and it has directed to further decrease the price of commodity. He also said the government will not import sugar this year.

PM strongly condemns killing of two people belonging to Sikh community in Peshawar

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while strongly condemning the killing of two people belonging to Sikh community in Peshawar, has directed to arrest the killers and punish them as per law.

In a statement today [Sunday], he asked the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to take steps to ensure protection of life and property of citizens, especially non-Muslim Pakistanis living in the province.

The Prime Minister vowed to eliminate the enemies of Pakistan who are behind such acts of terrorism.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also condemned the killing of Sikh citizens in Peshawar and expressed concern over it.

He stressed the need to immediately arrest the accused involved in killing of Sikh citizens.

Unknown assailants killed two persons of Sikh community at Sarband area in Peshawar.

According to police, two persons riding on motorbike opened fire on two shopkeepers of Sikh community selling spices at Bata Tal bazaar who succumbed to injuries on the spot.

The deceased were identified as Saljeet Singh and Ranjeet Singh.

Police collected the evidence and started investigation to arrest the culprits.

FM Bilawal Bhutto to visit US on Tuesday

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will visit the United States on Tuesday to lead Pakistan’s delegation at a ministerial-level meeting on global food security in New York on Wednesday.

The meeting, convened by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, is aimed at responding to the escalating food prices across the world in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

According to diplomatic sources, the meeting will review the urgent humanitarian needs and identify steps to build resilience for the future.

The ministerial meeting will be followed by a UN Security Council debate on “Conflict and Food Security” the following day.

During his visit, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will also hold meetings with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, President of UN General Assembly Abdullah Shahid and some bilateral meetings with his counterparts.
