Huawei Launches Pura 70 Pro+ and Ultra to Rival Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

Huawei Pura 70 Pro+ and Pura 70 Ultra lead the charge in the company’s newly unveiled Pura 70 series (P series rebrand) and are meant to rival the likes of Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and Xiaomi 14 Ultra.

We have already covered Huawei Pura 70 and 70 Pro in a separate article.

Huawei Pura 70 Pro+

The aptly named Huawei Pura 70 Pro+ shares most of its specifications with the Pura 70 model, but comes with extra features on top such as satellite messaging in China as well as extra RAM. It also stands out aesthetically thanks to its woven plaid design, which is only another layer under the glass black, but it looks appealing under different lighting angles.

Other than that, the Pura 70 Pro+ is identical to the Pura 70, including the 6.8-inch LTPO OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution. It gets the heavy-duty Kunlun Glass 2 protection as well as against drops and scratches.

The 50MP main camera has a variable aperture, but it misses out on the cool retractable lens on the Pu
ra 70 Ultra (more on that later). The main camera is accompanied by the upgraded 48MP periscope shooter and a 12.5MP ultrawide unit. Battery capacity also remains unchanged with 5,050 mAh accompanied by 100W super fast wired charging and 80W wireless charging.

Huawei Pura 70 Pro+

Huawei Pura 70 Pro+ starts at $1105 and has unique shades of colors including Silver, White, and Black.

Huawei Pura 70 Ultra

Once again, the Pura 70 Ultra is purely a camera upgrade over the Pura 70 Pro+ and has a standout retractable lens made with an intricate motorized structure. According to Huawei, this helps bring superior zoom quality as well as better focus for moving objects at a great distance.

Huawei Pura 70 Ultra debuts with 1-inch retractable main cam

Thanks to this retractable motor, the 50MP main camera can pop out when the camera is being used. Huawei has tested this retractable lens for 300,000 cycles of expansion and contraction. This shooter also gets a variable f/1.6 – 4.0 lens and features a 22.5mm focal le
ngth. It is based on a massive 1-inch sensor to capture extra light.

The second camera is a 50MP telephoto shooter with a 90 mm F/2.1 lens with OIS and 3.5x optical zoom, the same as the Pro+. The telephoto camera can double as a macro sensor and can focus on subjects as close as 5cm. The third and last camera is a 40 MP ultra sensor with a 13mm equivalent focal length.

As you would expect from a 2024 flagship, this camera system is laden with AI features to improve camera quality and edit images later on. Other specifications are the same as the Pro+ model.

The Pura 70 Ultra, being the most powerful of the Pura 70 bunch, is also the most expensive, starting at $1380 in China, and brings Chanson green, Mocha brown, Starburst white, and Star black colors.

Nawaz Sharif’s Guard Faces Charges for Spitting on Woman

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in the UK has brought charges against the driver/security guard for Pakistan Muslim League-Noon (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif for allegedly assaulting a woman by spitting on her last year in London.

According to reports, the CPS has charged Farid Nemouchi with ‘common assault’ following a complaint made by Panzani Cheema, a Brunei national residing in London.

The incident occurred last year in September when Cheema approached Nawaz Sharif, who was sitting in his car with his guard and began filming and questioning as Nemouchi was preparing to drive Nawaz Sharif home from his son Hasan Nawaz’s office. Panzani Cheema knocked on the car window and greeted Nawaz Sharif before calling him a ‘very corrupt politician.’ In response, Nemouchi spat on Cheema’s face, rolled up the window, and drove away. The video captured on Cheema’s phone went viral on social media. Here is the video:

Appearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, Nemouchi, accompanied by his lawyer Moeen Khan, enter
ed a plea of not guilty, indicating his intent to contest the charges of spitting on Cheema, who was not present in court.

During the hearing, the prosecutor highlighted the distress and trauma caused to Cheema by the alleged spitting incident. The judge granted Nemouchi bail without any conditions attached, scheduling the trial for a later date in June or July.

Nemouchi, originally from Algeria, is a skilled martial arts practitioner who provided security for Nawaz Sharif during his exile in London. His lawyer, Moeen Khan, emphasized his client’s innocence and stressed the circumstances surrounding the incident, citing the ongoing threats to Nawaz Sharif’s safety reported to the Metropolitan Police.

‘We will seek to demonstrate that our client did not violate any laws. Considering the circumstances at the time of the incident, Farid was protecting a high-profile individual facing live threats,’ stated Moeen Khan. ‘Farid Nemouchi is an accomplished professional in his field, and he is entitled to the presu
mption of innocence until proven guilty, as per UK law.’

Pakistan Army Launches Inquiry into Allegations Against Ex-ISI Chief

The Pakistan Army has taken a major step to ensure accountability by launching an inquiry, led by a major general, into the matter concerning a private housing society near Islamabad airport.

Last November, Kunwar Mueez, the owner of a private housing society, filed a constitutional petition under Article 184/3 of the Constitution with the Supreme Court. The petition was filed against six intelligence officials, including former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt Gen Faiz Hameed.

During the hearing on November 11, 2023, a bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa including Justice Aminuddin Khan and Justice Athar Minullah reviewed the petition. Kunwar’s legal counsel argued that the agency officials had allegedly committed offenses against his client under the guidance of Faiz Hameed.

According to the lawyer, the secret service personnel, accompanied by Rangers officials, raided Kunwar Mueez’s residence and workplace. He added that his client, along with his family, was detained, and the
ir jewelry and a substantial amount of money were confiscated.

Furthermore, false charges were allegedly leveled against Kunwar and his family to coerce them. During the hearing, the additional attorney general stated that the petitioner had other legal options available to address his complaint.

Despite concerns regarding the challenges in getting relief due to the officials’ status, the attorney general reassured the court that if Kunwar Mueez sent an application to the defense ministry, the matter would be handled by the law.

The petition was dismissed following the assurance of the attorney general. According to a national daily, citing sources, an inquiry committee led by a Major General was formed after Kunwar Mueez approached the defense ministry in January this year.
