Minister for Federal Education Rana Tanveer Hussain has urged the journalist community to play its role for the betterment of society.
Addressing a ceremony at Muridke Press Club on Sunday, he termed journalism as a sacred profession and an important pillar of society.
He said writers should raise the voice of the oppressed and weak segments of society.
He said writers should come forward and play their role for the development and security of Pakistan.

At least thirty two UN peacekeepers, including seven from Pakistan, lost their lives in different peacekeeping missions in 2022.
United Nation’s Staff Union President Aitor Arauz in a statement said six Pakistani peacekeepers were martyred in a helicopter crash in east of the Democratic Republic of Congo while the seventh lost his life in an attack by an armed group in the same country.
The statement added that peacekeepers and the civilian personnel who work side by side with them are on the front lines of the United Nations’ work in the world’s most challenging environments.
Pakistan has been one of the largest contributors of uniformed personnel to U.N. peacekeeping operations.
Since 1960s, Pakistan has contributed over 200,000 troops to 43 missions. In its service to the cause of peace, Pakistan lost 157 of its bravest who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Speaker of National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf and has felicitated the government and the people of China on commencement of Chinese New Year today.
In his message, he expressed their belief that the Chinese would continue to progress and develop owing to their national traits of hard work and commitment.
The Speaker expressed his confidence that Pak-China Friendship would not only enable both countries to flourish and develop but regional progress also hinges upon unbreakable ties between both countries.
He said the successful completion of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor projects manifested the willingness of both nations and their masses to cooperate for mutual benefit.
Deputy Speaker Zahid Durrani also felicitated the Chinese nation and expressed his good wishes for the progress and prosperity of the Chinese people.
