Dar orders inquiry into leakage of tax information of Army Chief’s family members

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has ordered an inquiry into the unwarranted leakage of tax information of the family members of Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Taking serious notice, he said this is clear violation of complete confidentiality of tax information that the Law provides.

In view of this serious lapse on the part of to-date unknown functionaries, the Finance Minister has directed the SAPM on Revenue Tariq Mehmood Pasha to personally lead an immediate investigation into the violation of tax law and breach of FBR data, affix responsibility and submit a report within twenty-four hours.

Sindh requests World Bank support for electric buses project

The Sindh government has asked the World Bank for financing to import three hundred electric buses for Karachi city.

The proposal came in a meeting between provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass-Transit Sharjeel Memon and a delegation of World Bank led by practice manager transport Shomik Mehndiratta in Karachi.

The Sindh government and representatives of the World Bank also agreed to carry out a joint survey of the Bus Rapid Transit Yellow line in Karachi.

The Minister said the provincial government is planning to run bullet train from Karachi to Hyderabad in the first phase and from Hyderabad to Sukkur in the second phase.

Pakistan, Egypt agree to strengthen bilateral cooperation in diverse sectors

Pakistan and Egypt have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in political, trade, economic, cultural and commercial domains.

An understanding to this effect was reached during meeting of Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Hassan Shoukry, on the sidelines of COP27 climate summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.

They discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest and dwelled on way forward to enhance bilateral engagement between the two countries.

Speaking on the occasion, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said Pakistan and Egypt have longstanding cooperative relations rooted in common faith, culture and values.

He invited the Egyptian Foreign Minister to visit Pakistan to commence bilateral activities for celebration of 75 years of friendly relations between the two countries.

Pakistan inks $100m financing agreement with ADB

Ministry of Economic Affairs has inked a financing agreement worth 100 million dollars with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Systems Strengthening Program.”

Secretary Ministry of Economic Affairs Dr. Kazim Niaz signed the Financing Agreement on behalf of Government of Pakistan while Country Director, Pakistan Resident Mission Yong Ye signed the Agreement on behalf of the Asian Development Bank.

A Program Agreement was also signed between the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and ADB for the implementation of the Program in the province.

The signing ceremony was also witnessed by Minister for Economic Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

The results-based loan program will help improve the delivery of health services at secondary hospitals by modernizing infrastructure and equipment; ensuring clinical protocols, standards, and guidelines are implemented; and improving human resources planning and medicine supply chain management.

On the occasion, Minister for Economic Affairs reiterated the commitment of Federal Government to help the provincial governments in Building Back Better in the post-flood scenario by arranging concessional financing from the international development partners.

Pakistan calls for end of decades-old US economic blockade on Cuba

Pakistan has called for an immediate end to the decades old United States’ economic embargo on Cuba as it is putting debilitating impacts on the Cubans.

Addressing the UN General Assembly on behalf of G77, Pakistan Ambassador and deputy permanent representative to the United Nations Aamir Khan said the limited foreign investment and difficulty of access to development credits translate directly into economic hardship and humanitarian suffering for the people of Cuba.

Pakistan envoy expressed deep concern about the widening of the extraterritorial nature of the embargo on Cuba and rejected the United States’ reinforcement of the financial measures it has adopted to tighten the embargo.

Pakistan, China to further expand cooperation in diverse sectors: Moin-ul-Haque

Pakistan and China will further expand cooperation in key areas of trade, investment, infrastructure, industry, agriculture and Information Technology.

In a statement ahead of Prime Minister’s visit to China, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Moin-ul-Haque said both sides will discuss important issues, especially cooperation in addressing global challenges like pandemic, climate change, inflation and poverty.

The ambassador said that the CPEC marks a new phase in Pakistan-China relations as it places economic cooperation and connectivity at the center of bilateral agenda.

He said the CPEC would emerge as a lynchpin of region’s connectivity and economic integration.

Pakistan wants to further augment its relations with US in diverse fields: Dar

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar says Pakistan wants to further augment its bilateral relations with the United States in the fields of economy, investment and trade.

Talking to US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome in Islamabad, he said the two countries have historic, long-standing, extensive and durable relations.

The Finance Minister apprised the Ambassador about the estimated losses faced by Pakistan due to recent devastating floods, and appreciated the US support for flood relief activities.

Donald Blome expressed the same sentiments on bilateral relations between the United States and Pakistan.

He also informed about his recent visit to flood affected areas and expressed sympathy on the enormous losses caused by floods.
